Acceptable Use Policy
Effective October 30, 2026 · Last updated October 30, 2026
This Acceptable Use Policy (this “AUP”) states what you may and may not do with the Owl AI services. It is incorporated into the Owl AI Terms of Service at owl.ai/terms (the “Terms”), applies to every Individual User, Member, Organization Customer, and Site visitor, and a breach of it is a breach of the Terms. Capitalized terms have the meanings given in the Terms.
1. Application
You are responsible for compliance with this AUP by you, your Members, your end users, and anyone you permit to use the Services. This AUP applies to Customer Content, Output, and your conduct in using the Services.
2. Prohibited Uses
You will not, and will not permit any Member or third party to, use the Services or Output to:
- (a)violate any law, or infringe or misappropriate any intellectual property, privacy, publicity, or other right of any person;
- (b)create, upload, or distribute content that sexualizes or exploits minors, or that is pornographic, harassing, hateful, or abusive, or that promotes self-harm, graphic violence, or terrorism;
- (c)upload or transmit viruses, malware, or other harmful code;
- (d)probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the Services, breach or bypass any security or authentication measure, or access another user’s or organization’s data;
- (e)circumvent usage limits, balance checks, safety filters, or access controls;
- (f)reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or attempt to derive the source code, models, or underlying algorithms of the Services or of any Third-Party Provider’s service;
- (g)build or support a product or service that competes with the Services, develop or train an AI or machine learning model that competes with the Services or any Third-Party Provider’s service, or use Output as Section 4 restricts;
- (h)resell, sublicense, or provide access to the Services to anyone other than your Members, except that you may distribute Output as Section 3 permits;
- (i)scrape, harvest, or extract data from the Services by automated means other than features the Services provide for that purpose;
- (j)conduct surveillance or unauthorized monitoring of individuals, or identify or verify individuals from their faces or other physical, physiological, or behavioral characteristics, including by facial recognition or any collection of Biometric Data, other than the Permitted Sports Uses described in Section 3;
- (k)infer sensitive attributes of individuals, such as race, ethnicity, religion, health, or sexual orientation, other than competition division or category information (Section 3(c)) and biomechanical and performance metrics generated in ordinary sports analytics;
- (l)engage in social scoring or predictive profiling that leads to discriminatory or harmful treatment of individuals or groups;
- (m)make decisions with a consequential effect on an individual’s legal position, financial position, employment, or life opportunities without appropriate human oversight, other than officiating and line-calling determinations made under the applicable rules of competition;
- (n)exploit the vulnerabilities of individuals, such as age, disability, or economic situation, or use deceptive techniques to distort their behavior, including to encourage problem gambling;
- (o)promote or facilitate real-money gambling or payday lending, other than lawful, licensed sports wagering as Section 3(d) permits;
- (p)operate any activity in which a failure of the Services could lead to death, personal injury, or environmental damage, or provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment;
- (q)support law enforcement applications;
- (r)engage in political campaigning or lobbying, generate or spread disinformation or false online engagement, or discourage participation in democratic processes;
- (s)develop chatbots that are erotic, romantic, or intended for companionship, or that impersonate a real person without that person’s explicit consent;
- (t)impersonate any person, misrepresent the origin of content, or falsely imply sponsorship by or association with Owl, any league, team, or other third party;
- (u)solicit or collect payment card information, government identifiers, passwords, API keys, or similar sensitive identifiers from any person;
- (v)engage in any practice prohibited under Article 5 of the EU Artificial Intelligence Act;
- (w)submit Prohibited Data (Terms Section 5.7), or Customer Content you do not have the rights to submit under Terms Section 5.6; or
- (x)identify or analyze any individual under 18 years of age, notwithstanding Section 3, except to the extent a Customer Agreement expressly authorizes Customer Content involving minors. An individual’s incidental appearance in Customer Content, such as in a crowd, in the background, or as part of a ball crew, is not a violation of this paragraph, but the Services may not be used to identify or analyze that individual.
3. Permitted Sports Uses
Nothing in Section 2 prohibits the following uses (the “Permitted Sports Uses”), provided you have the rights and consents the Terms require: (a) detecting, tracking, and analyzing athletes, officials, and other participants in sports competitions, practices, and training, including their positions, movements, actions, and biomechanical characteristics, and identifying them from roster, jersey number, position, and other contextual or customer-supplied information, for officiating, line-calling, performance analytics, coaching, scouting, broadcast and media production, and fan engagement; (b) making or supporting automated officiating and line-calling determinations under the applicable rules of competition, subject to Terms Section 7.2; (c) processing age-group, gender, or other competition division or category information about athletes, as provided by you, the competition, or the athlete; and (d) distributing Output to leagues, governing bodies, teams, broadcasters, media companies, sports data distributors, and licensed sports wagering operators, and using Output in connection with lawful, licensed sports wagering. The identification of participants is subject to Terms Section 6.1 (no facial recognition; no voiceprints) and Terms Section 6.2 (no identification of spectators).
4. Restriction on Using Output to Train Other Models
You will not use Output, or permit anyone else to use Output, to train, fine-tune, or benchmark any AI or machine learning model, or to generate synthetic training data for any AI model. This restriction passes through limits in the acceptable use policies of Owl’s Third-Party Providers, which you must also comply with as they apply to the Services. It does not limit your use of Output in your own analytics, broadcast, coaching, or media work. Owl’s Training License in the Terms (Section 5.3) is separate, and Section 2(g) separately restricts competing models.
5. Enforcement
Owl may investigate suspected violations of this AUP and the Terms, remove or disable access to content that violates them, suspend or terminate access under Terms Section 16, and report suspected unlawful activity to appropriate authorities. Owl is not obligated to monitor the Services or Customer Content, and a failure to act on a violation is not a waiver.
